Teacher’s Biography

I’m a  Career Technical Instructor in our business finance department. For the last eighteen years I have worked at Lynwood Community Adult School helping students connect their prior knowledge, life experiences, interest, new learning and the achievements of their learning goals to obtain transferable or employability skills that’s specific to a particular career path. I completed my bachelor’s degree at Union Institute and University and my graduate studies at the University of Phoenix. I also work as the school registrar and it has been my pleasure for the past twenty-six years assisting our students in obtaining their High School Diplomas and seeing them walk across that stage into their future. In previous years, I was given the honor to be named the Classified employee of the year for the 2022-23 school year. That year was  extra special because I celebrated a mile stone birthday with the graduating class, friends and my LCAS family. Each year is a new beginning and  I am confident that this school year will be greater than the last year! We will  continue to rise above the uncertainties and encourage each other to achieve their dreams and fulfill their goals.

My Teaching Philosophy

“For me, the ideal classroom environment is student-centered. I strive to create learning scenarios where the students are undertaking individual or group projects while I move throughout the classroom facilitating.”

“My classroom focuses on the individual needs of my students. I work hard to differentiate learning so that each student’s unique skills are emphasized.”

“I always ensure that my lessons involve multiple learning modalities so that students learn through their preferred learning style.” One example teaching strategy that I often employ is the guided practice or ‘I do, we do, you do’ method. This approach starts with teacher modelling a practice but involves the gradual release of responsibility to the student until the student can undertake tasks on their own.

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

Malcolm X

“Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education”
