School Description
Lynwood Community Adult School (LCAS) was established on October 23, 1953, and opened as an Adult School in 1954. The first classes offered were sewing, cooking and homemaking (home economics?). Later, in 1955, academic classes leading to a high school diploma were added. From 1960 to 1971, English as a Second Language classes were added as the Adult School experienced growth due to a large number of students from various countries (Thailand, Iran, South America, Mexico, Central America) entering the United States on Student Visas. In 1971, the first Adult Basic Education classes were offered. In 1980, a technology department was created and computer classes were offered. Later, in 1986, the first Vocational Nursing program was established. During the 1990’s, expansion of class offerings included Medical Billing and Coding, Computer Repair, Security Guard training, GED preparation (added a day class), Community Based Tutoring, Distance Learning (ESL), and Automotive Repair. In the 2000’s, LCAS gained a permanent site located at 11277 Atlantic.
LCAS presently operates during three trimester and two semester sessions within the traditional school calendar year and offers the following programs:

- Engineering - Drafting with SolidWorks
