Biography

I am a teacher in the ESL Program at Lynwood Community Adult School. I teach ESL 5/Advanced-Low-Transition.I have taught ESL from levels Literacy to Level 6, for many years.I have a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Spanish, as well as, a Certificate in English/Spanish Medical Interpretation.I have been an Attendance Coordinator and Distance Learning Lead. I have participated in numerous educational school activities and programs in my years of teaching. I pride myself in having received positive reviews from students throughout my career.I believe in fostering a desire for personal growth and achievement and a joy for learning in students.

ESL Philosophy Statement 

I believe an ESL class is a place for fulfillment of self-goals and aspirations, plus personal challenges. A classroom is a place of non-judgmental, engaging interaction. It is a forum for exploration and discovery, where inherent and undiscovered knowledge and ability is guided and liberated. It is a sanctuary of affirmation and motivation for the mind and spirit.

There are many manners of gauging success. I think growth is a day-to-day process, and achievable in a variety of contexts and measurable in abundant, creative modes. Achievement is also subliminal, especially in second-language acquisition.

Our ESL students arrive with a template of language foundation; their mother-tongue. I strive to build on that blueprint, and align it with English-language norms. I seek to provide my students with the tools to function in English in a host of contexts, from informal to very formal. I want my students to be versed in many domains of discourse, thereby enhancing conversational and literate fluency.

Education is not intrusion, rather it is a summoning forth the wealth of intellectual potential in all of us.
