Over a dozen aspiring nurses lit candles, symbolizing their devotion and commitment to the care of others, and catapulted their career aspirations in the medical profession during the Lynwood Community Adult School’s (LCAS) vocational nursing graduation and pinning ceremony on February 1.
Sixteen students in the 2023-24 cohort graduated from the intensive 13-month vocational nursing program, which provides students with knowledge of the principles and skills necessary to succeed as nurses in a hospital setting.
As part of the program, students go through a rigorous selection process involving two testing sessions and an interview panel. Once selected, students receive clinical training in healthcare facilities – including St. Francis Medical Center, Camino Healthcare and the Watts Healthcare Center – and are prepared to take state nursing board exams, which qualify them to work in the field or continue their studies in a college-level registered nursing program.
In addition to the vocational nursing program, LCAS offers adult students a variety of academic and career technical education programs to choose from, including courses in business, child development, engineering, various medical occupations, adult basic education, citizenship, high school diploma and more.
