My name is Mercedez Martin and I teach English as a Second Language at Lynwood Community Adult School. I have been teaching at LCAS since January 2004. During my time at LCAS, I have taught all levels of ESL from literacy to level 5 as well as Distance Learning for the high school program. I have a Bachelor's degree in Human Development, a Master’s degree in Education, a Multiple Subjects Credential, a Special Education Credential, and a Designates Subjects Adult Credential. I received Teacher of The Year for the 2015-2016 school year. I look forward to the new school year and hope to inspire my students to continue their education so they can reach their goals.
My ESL Teaching Philosophy
As a teacher, my most satisfying teaching experience in the classroom comes from a disciplined, yet motivational, relationship between the teacher and the students. My approach is to motivate learners to lead them towards subject matters in language teaching that enhances effective learning while helping the learners connect their views and thoughts with the family, the community, and the whole world. I, therefore, believe in teaching to expand learners’ “local knowledge” which includes their ideas and background knowledge as well as their mutual advantages in their social world.
