Lynwood Unified to Extend Facilities Optimization Process, Relocate Hosler Middle School

The Lynwood Unified School District Board of Education voted at its December 11 meeting to approve a formal resolution that both extends the District’s Facilities Optimization and community engagement process and authorizes the future relocation of Hosler Middle School students and programs to the Bullis Campus.

The decision follows a comprehensive analysis of campus conditions, community feedback from families and staff and recommendations from the Facilities Optimization Committee as part of the District’s long-term planning to address declining enrollment, rising facility needs and operating costs, and ongoing fiscal challenges.

While consolidating Lugo, Rosa Parks and Wilson elementary schools was among the options reviewed during this process, the Board emphasized that all schools will remain open and that any decision regarding school closures has been postponed pending an additional year of analysis and community engagement.

“Continuing this process will allow us to make thoughtful, student-centered decisions rooted in equity, transparency and community partnership,” said Board President Julian Del Real-Calleros. “We are committed to planning responsibly to strengthen educational quality, maximize campus resources and ensure every student learns in a high-quality, well-supported environment.”

With enrollment declining over the past decade and operational costs increasing, the District has been working to balance responsible stewardship of resources with its commitment to providing safe, modern and equitable learning environments for all students. The Los Angeles County Office of Education has also directed the District to adopt a Fiscal Stabilization Plan to ensure long-term financial health.

Extending the Facilities Optimization Process will allow the District to continue evaluating long-term facility needs and investment priorities. This includes examining potential strategies such as school consolidation, grade reconfiguration or campus repurposing to ensure fiscal sustainability, equitable access to programs and high-quality learning environments for all students.

The District will also begin to develop a comprehensive transition plan for relocating Hosler Middle School to the Bullis Campus following the reopening of the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus in Fall 2027. Students and staff will be able to access upgraded facilities; expanded academic, elective, outdoor and collaborative learning opportunities; and enhanced campus safety.

“This resolution gives us the space and structure to plan for Lynwood’s future in a way that is both responsible and looks to what’s possible,” said Superintendent Patrick Gittisriboongul, Ed.D. “By extending this process, we can take a deeper look at our facilities and continue engaging our community as partners in shaping the learning environments our students deserve. This is long-term work, but it is essential work, and we are committed to doing it with care and clarity.”

Lynwood Unified will continue sharing updates with families, staff and the broader community as planning progresses. Engagement opportunities – including meetings, forums and information sessions – will ensure the community remains informed and involved in shaping the District’s future.
