Accreditation

Accreditation is a voluntary dual-purpose process that schools (1) must be worthy of the trust placed in them to provide high-quality learning and (2) clearly demonstrate continual self-improvement.

An accredited school is focused on a mission and goals for students; it is student-oriented and examines its students’ performance continuously; it accepts objective evaluation from a team of outside peer professionals trained by ACS WASC; it maintains a qualified faculty within an effectively organized school; it collaboratively assesses the quality of its educational programs on a regular basis; and it plans for the future.

ACS WASC accreditation is a school improvement process and therefore is a process that serves as the foundation for quality education. An accredited school is a statement to the broader community and the stakeholders that it is a trustworthy institution for student learning and committed to ongoing improvement.

The public is assured that accredited institutions are evaluated extensively and conform to expectations of performance and quality. Because accreditation requires continual self-evaluation and monitoring of its programs and operations in relation to the impact on student learning and periodic external review, the public can be assured that the educational quality of programs and services offered by the institution are current, reflect high standards of quality, and are offered with integrity.

Students can be assured that the institutions in which they seek to enroll have been reviewed and the educational programs that are offered have been evaluated for quality.

Educational institutions benefit from the stimulus for self-study and self-improvement provided by the accreditation process.

Secondary or post-secondary schools in the western states that grant academic credits towards a diploma or degree must be accredited by a recognized accrediting body like the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ASC WASC). When a school is accredited, you can be confident that the credits, certificates and diplomas you earn are valid and transferable to another school and recognized by colleges across the United States.

Accreditation standards are important to maintain because they helps us keep our school at a high level of excellence in how we organize and present our curriculum. When students attend a class, or when businesses and local community groups look to us for partnerships, they know they are working with first-rate educators and staff. In addition, students, schools, and all interested in the diploma earned from that school have the peace of mind that the program is legitimate and that they’re not being scammed.

• Fosters improvement of the school’s programs and operations to support student learning
• Assures a school community that the school’s purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable educational program
• A way to manage change through regular assessment, planning, implementing, monitoring and reassessment
• Assists a school/district in establishing its priority areas for improvement as a result of the perpetual accreditation cycle that includes
  • School self-assessment of the current educational program for students
  • Insight and perspective from the visiting committee
  • Regular school staff assessment of progress through the intervening years between full self-studies.

Lynwood Unified School District's mission is to prepare every student for college and career by providing them with a rigorous and engaging instructional program, with the strong belief that every child (student) deserves the chance to succeed.

In keeping with our District's mission of college readiness, many of Lynwood Community Adult School's high school courses are University of California A - G approved and more are being added each year. 

The Subject Requirement, more commonly referred to as the "a-g" subject requirements, is one of three requirements needed to enter UC as a freshman. Specifically, students must complete a pattern of 15 college-preparatory courses drawn from the areas of history/social science, English, math, lab science, a language other than English, the visual and performing arts and the college-preparatory elective. We label each subject area or requirement with a letter to easily identify the different course requirements.
